Roberto Balzani, 47 years old, comes from Forlì. He is married and has two children.

History has always been his true passion since he was a child. After graduating at the Liceo Classico G.B. Morgagni, a secondary school specializing in humanistic studies, he enrolls in the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Florence and, later, in the European University Institute.

His academic career leads him to become a researcher in the branch of Contemporary History in Florence and then an Ordinary Professor at the University of Bologna, till he enters the Faculty of Cultural Heritage and Preservation in Ravenna. In July 2008, he is appointed Dean of the Faculty which, thanks to his efforts, has now become one of the most appreciated faculties of the academic center of Romagna.

Roberto has always been interested in civics related to the sphere of cultural and mutualist associationism, and has manifested it in multiple ways: through his commitment to research (concerning the social, historical and economic background of Romagna, just to mention a mere example), with the organization of meetings and demonstrations, some of national extent, and most of all through his steady popularization of the essential values of the Italian Constitution derived from the Resistance Movement. His entire commitment is focused on the blending of the values conveyed by the lay Left and the values of the Christian Solidarism, all within the new boarders traced by civic and social responsibility combined with a new environmental awareness.

After founding the “Palestra per il Partito democratico” in cooperation with many citizens and activists of democratic faith, in 2007 Roberto joins the Italian Democratic Party (PD) and becomes delegate for the territorial assembly of his city, Forlì.

He resolved to run for the primary election for the selection of the candidate for the Mayor of Forlì, since he strongly believes that the primaries are an essential instrument of democracy which hallmarks and consolidates the Democratic Party. His wish is to foster the renewal of the political and administrative situation of his city in terms of strategies applied and opportunities to be created.
As a candidate of the Democratic Party, he will work to enhance the ideals of his party with all the effort he can muster.
